1908, 1948 and now 2012........ I was so happy

Paris was a front runner from the git-go......... :barf:

New York never had a chance......America - Just think how nice that would have been for Billary Clinton ;) But, the world hates us now so it wouldn't be right to send it to New York.....

Talk about some schedule......this is 2005 right? I will start making my plans to be there ;) Lots of notice to the boss for vacation time........opps I forgot I am the boss.... Well, it's settled then......... Aint going........catch it on the tube like all the others that have come and gone.

So how are they going to do the shooting sports in a country with such ridiculous gun restrictions, make a lot of exceptions? :)

I shouldn't have closed this thread without a comment. Sorry. :o

Although the original post had nothing to do with Legal and Political, (...or even firearms!) Annie has set it on a course to discuss the legal and practical aspects of the shooting sports in a country where firearms ownership and use is greatly restricted by the government. I missed her post initially. :o

If the thread continues in this vein, it will remain open. :)

Thanks,

-Dave

That being the case,...

My understanding is that firearms possession by international competitors in countries like Great (sic) Britain *is* highly restricted, and special, grudging allowances are made. Even then, I think it is still made clear that the government makes no distinction between the shooter with a smallbore Anschutz target rifle and a drug dealer.

Thanks Blues

Well, Thanks Annie for adding the right touch and a very good add it was....

Olympics, New York, London, Clinton, World love and Paris........ Seems like that was legal and political to me?

Guess I needed to add an extra paragraph or two?

Thanks for reopening it and letting it flow......... ;)

I wish we hadn't got it. We'll probably be paying for it for years afterwards, like Montreal.
The British pistol competitors won't be allowed to practice, they'll have to go abroad to do it. They will [probably] get temporary s.5 Prohibited Weapon FACs for the actual Games, which will only last for the duration. They won't be allowed to actually get hold of the gun until they get to the range.
The ranges, according to the Plan, will be temporary ones knocked up at the Artillery Barracks at Woolwich, and will be demolished smartly afterwards to make sure we don't get any permanent assets out of it.

MK VII,

Thanks for responding with that interesting information. It sure opens our (American) eyes how good we have it in many ways. We often take our rights for granted.

We feel for your loss of life today in London. We hope all those responsible are either dead or will be found and tried in your courts.

We stand along with our good friends of England and the world in these trying times. May the good and right of the world always over power the evil that continues to try to stop our actions. We will beat them in one way or many...... Though our never ending fight continues, we will remain strong and thrive as free people....

God Bless the UK, US and the world........ :)

makes a change from "If it wasn't for us, you'd all be speaking German", I suppose.

:o I admit I've used that one before. But on someone much less enlightened than yourself.

I was once discussing politics with an antigun young brit (late 20's, I'd guess). He adamantly argued that the U.S. never fought in Europe in WWII. I had to take the cheap shot.

Out of curiousity, are you anywhere near today's attacks? How are people reacting to this? Angry with the terrorists? Or angry with the gov't for involving them in the war in the middleeast?

???

? not sure what that is about or for???

Maybe I was misunderstood??? Sorry, if I touched a nerve? Not sure what your saying? Maybe one or both of us is reading the other wrong????

Regards.... Rojoe67 :)

I should note: My mother was born in Bavaria and her father was a German Luftwaffe Navigator Instructor.... He died in a Russian POW camp..... My father's side was in the fight for both British Military and the U.S. Military. A cousin of my dad was a RAF pilot whom was lost in combat..... Just wanted to share that for thought.....

I heard/read that the blasts in the tube and a big red were due to the IOC decision. Barmy I know but, could there have been AlQ teams in Paris and NYC "in case". Connection? As an aside, I was truly hoping to see Creedmore reestablished.

Sounds unlikely. Olympic decision could not have been predicted, and why have standby teams in multiple cities and then only use one of them? G-8 summit has been well trailed in advance and large part of police/secret service apparatus kept busy monitoring that.
Am just outside London, no need to go in yesterday. Hard to read public mood, but several controversial anti-gun, anti-liberty Bills now pending likely to pass without opposition.
No elections pending, so no opportunities for political change of direction. Similar Irish bombing campaigns in '70s produced no political initiatives.

How much does one want to bet that the video from the gazilion video cameras in the subway will provide little evidence usefull to the investigation. Those who actualy did the crime are probably thousands of miles away by now so they can't spill info about their operations if they where captured. Guns may not have stopped this terible event, but more police just might have increased the chance of this attack being foiled. Guns would for certian help stop many crimes that currently happen in the UK.

/Sorry for going off topic

Crosshair, there's a separate thread for the london bombings, though it seems to have turned into a debate over Iraq's WMDs. :)

At best, the olympics announcement was icing on the cake for the terrorists; the bombing must have been planned to coincide with the G8 summit.

If the terrorists actually believe that they can make the Brits change with a few bombs then they have woefully underestimated the Brits. My Father, who fought in WWII (and Korea and Vietnam by the way) once told me that the Brits only seem to be a mild mannered people, until you try to back them down, then they will climb all over you and tear your head off. History bears that out.

These disgusting terrorist attacks are but mosquito bites compared to the rocket attacks of WWII. I believe our cousins overseas will stand tall and prevail.

It is a shame that Britain has taken the national gun hating stance that it has, and hopefully some day will return to individual freedoms.
