2011?

Maybe I'm just thinking out loud here, but are there plans for a centennial model 1911? I know its a little early, but its an exciting prospect.

YES! I'm glad you asked.
We at Meowhead's Shiny Happy Armaments Company, Inc., are working hard to bring you a special edition of the 1911, designed to all firearms laws expected to be on the books in 2011. This limited edition pistol is crafted entirely of titanium, with a beautiful canary yellow finish (as everybody knows, black and non-shiny handguns are the choice of terrorists). There's a smooth thirteen-pound trigger pull, a feature to drop the hammer to half-cock after ever shot (law-abiding citizens have no need for follow-up shots) and a fixed, two-round magazine reloadable only by field-stripping the gun.

In the spirit of competitive capitalism, Ceol Mhor's Shady Offshore Gun Works will also be producing a centennial 1911. The Standard model will come standard with two 8-round mags, a 15-round stick mag and a 32-round drum, as well as a detachable shoulder stock and sights adjustable for those long-range shots. Available in either stainless or blued finishes.

For a bit more, you'll be able to get the De-Lux model, with everything from the Standard, plus a select-fire trigger group and a detachable front handgrip.

Carbine kits will also be available, complete with bayonet lugs, flash hiders, your choice of folding (side or under) or telescoping stocks, and (for a bit extra) an integral suppressor. Available in barrel lengths of 12", 15", and 18".

For $900 Colt did a crappy job on their limited edition 1911A1. I think by 2011 we can expect even less from Colt.

STI International, www.stiguns.com has been making a 2011 model, acutually a fairly complete product line, for roughly the last 10 years.

The 2011 employs a modular frame consisting of a CNC machined aluminum or steel upper frame that the slide rides on and which contains the hammer/sear/disconnector assembly, and a double stack glass-filled polymer grip that holds the trigger and mainspring assembly.

The STI and SV Infinity - essentially the same thing, are dominant in USPSA/IPSC competition. The STI guns are offered in a variety of calibers including .38 Super, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. Variants of the 2011 series are available in 3.5" (VIP), 5" (Edge, Eagle), and 6" (Eagle 6", 450 Xcaliber + which chambers the .45 Super and .450 SMC). The various models fullfill CCW, Self-defence, duty, competition, and hunting roles. Quality is superior to virtually all factory produced handguns on the market.

Muzzleblast and kbear beat me to it.

I really like the 2011's......only handled one and it was in 400 Corbon.
