2005 downsized Ruger Vaquero.

While I have seen photos of the 2005 Vaquero in several magazines and read articles invarious places (known as "priming the pipeline" by manufacturers prior to the release of products), I have yet to find this gun at any SoCal dealers.

I have visited and called several dealers some of which are large and longstanding Ruger outlets and the story is consistently the same:
"Not only have we not yet seen the gun but Ruger is not telling us when deliveries will start".

The more insisting among them have been told that delivery schedules can be discussed during the upcoming Las Vegas SHOT show.

In another thread in this forum several posts were stating that "this gun is out at the dealers".

Which is it?

Is the gun really being shipped?

Is the gun being rolled out in a geographic pattern starting East and therefore not yet in California? (even though Single Actions do not require California approval).

Has anybody here bought one and if so where?

Berg,
They're out, it's just taking time to get them circulating in volume.
There are a number of posts on the Ruger site and elsewhere from people who either have them or have seen them.

I have seen them on guns America .
I have already heard rumor of new vaquero in .45 colt being blown up . This was from a VERY reliable source .The new Vaquero is not as strong as the old one and should most likely be limited to the old colt SA loads at least in .45 . I hear there will be no 44 mag offered.

I bought a New Vaquero in 45 LC on Christmas Eve at a gunshop in Bristol, TN. It is the "case colored" blue. It looks and feels great, but I haven't taken it to the range, yet. I was just doin' Santa Claus a favor.

According to the Ruger 2005 catalog they will be available only in .357 and .45 Colt.

I guess they're doing a staged roll-out and they started East. Why else would get their guns before CA?

My local dealer had 2 on the shelf over 5 weeks ago. They only lasted a couple of days.

I'm guessing the delay in your area may have more to do with the distributors your local dealer uses, rather than any "geographical strategy" by Ruger.

My dealer said he saw them at a Ruger dealers show a few weeks ago. He loved them. Thought the downsized grip was great. He's a Colt SAA collector and CAS shooter from way back, so praise from him is a good thing.

I was very interested in them when I first heard about them a few months ago. So, I checked into them. They are very nice guns with some nice features on them. The only downside is that they can not handle heavy loads. If one is shooting cowboy loads, one should be fine with the gun. If
one is planning to shoot anything heavy, get the standard Vaquero while they
can be had. The only caliber that Ruger is going to make in the standard
Vaquero we be .44mag.

Hatchet you sure about that

I have one in 45 lc and would give anything for one in 44 so I can shoot 44 specials in it, its one of my favorite rounds and I shoot a lot.
I was dissipointed in ruger not coming out with one in 44 even special but a 44 mag so I can shoot specials would be nice.
Thanks for the info, I will look into it. :)

Well Ill be a monkeys uncle

7 different mods in 44 mag, looks like I'm gonna have to have another one.
Hope it shoots better than the 45 I have now.

As of mid December, Ruger management said ALL old Vaqs, including the .44 Mag, are out of production.
If you want one, better chase it down now.

The old Vaqs are still in the distributor pipeline & Ruger still has some in stock, they're just not making any more.
Get 'em while they're still gettable.
