Hi, I would like to know what kind of 20 gauge shotgun is a good one to get. I like to target shoot. I would also like to use it for personal protection out on a farm. I have read some about a Winchester. Any Suggestions?? Please help! :)

Thanks alot for your help. I have a Smith & Wesson 357 magnum handgun but I have never bought a shotgun. I need all the suggestions I can get!!:o

If you want to spend money, you can't beat the Remington,

But go straight to the Wingmaster as the low priced Remingtons are not as good as a Mossberg for similar money.

I like the Mossberg combos for example:

#54282 20 gauge Field/Deer COMBO wood stock, blued finish, 26" VR w/Accu-Choke tube set and 24" rifled, ported barrel with rifle sights . ...MSRP $355 Usually less.

Who has gone from a Remington 1100 Semi-auto to a 20 gauge Mossberg 500.

1300

I would try as many different guns as possible to see which feels best. I'm partial to the 1300 but any of the major players should give you good service. If you go Rem, get an older wingmaster. For about the same price as the new Xpress models, you should be able to find a nice used wingmaster that is in my opinion a much better gun.

Check your local sporting goods stores 'used rack'.

I bought a great little Winchester 1300 20 ga. with wood stocks that needed a little TLC from the local Gander Mountain for $150 back a couple years ago. About $50 in repair, and a lot of fun working on it and bringing it back to life, and now it's so beautiful I do believe it will stick with me a lifetime...
