20 gauge reloading question

I have quite a few 12 gauges and have reloaded for years. Awhile back I picked up a 20 gauge and reloader and have been pretty busy with it. I would like to make some heavier 20 gauge loads. While using 00 buck with 12 gauge 3 pellets fit nicely per tier, 9 total for 2 3/4" shells and 12 total for 3" shells. This obviously isn't rocket science but I was wondering what is the largest shot that fits similarly regarding the 20 gauge. (3 pellets per tier). I linked a shot size index site below for reference. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to ask this question in the reloading section of the forum...( or one of the moderators might whup up on you ) !

Since you have experience in loading shotshells ..you know 1 oz of shot is one oz of shot ....pellet size is not an issue. It makes no difference in terms of the qty of shot ... ( O Buck is 9 pellets in 1 oz ) ---and its 9 pellets if its a 12ga or a 20ga...1 oz is still 1 oz...

as always - follow a published recipe for wad, primer, hull and powder.

In 20 gauge, assuming wad with no petals:

#3 Buck is 4 pellets per layer.
#2 Buck is 3 pellets per layer.
#1 Buck is 2 pellets per layer.

#*$&@%^$( spelling

Just a thought

Big Jim is probably right about where to post this, but after looking at the reloading section, it is fraught with rifle and pistol reloading info, but nary a post in there on shotgun shell reloading. Would it be possible to break out a separate section for just shotshell reload info?

I don't know about a separate forum ....some of us that are into shotshell loading ...visit the reloading section quite a bit ...so somebody will help out over there if you have reloading questions on shotshells.

or you can drop me a personal note if you want...and I'll help where I can..

loading shotshells is way easier than metallic ...but a lot of us do both.

We don't get that many reloading questions. As my friend, BigJim, said, "loading shotshells is way easier than metallic." You just follow the reloading guide's recipe.

If there were to be a separation in the shotgun forum it might make more sense to segregate sporting and HD/tactical shotguns. Or, we could have a "M-500 or R-870Ex" sub-forum.

Thanks SHR970. I agree this question was likely more suited for the reloading forum but I saw very little discussion regarding shotgun reloading. Either way, this is turning out to be one of my favorite websites.

No impending whuppings for posting this here. We've handled reloading queries before and will again.

That Lyman manual is a great idea, Calling Ballistic Products and talking to their Tech folks is another. They can certainly assist with load info and components.

Just seems with the lesser shotgun reloading talk there and the heavy population of very experienced shotgun reloaders in this'n makes these seem suited to here...

But what do I know??? I still ain't got in to it yet...:o
