20 ga. sabot slugs

Save me some $ here if you can.

Just recieved a second barrel for a NEF Handi Rifle. It's a 20 ga. rifled slug barrel. What I'd like is someone who has one of these to give me some insight as to which sabot slugs he's had the best luck with. The darn things are $2.50 a pop and I don't want to run over a $100 worth of stuff through it finding a acceptable brand.

I'm leaning toward the Hornady 260 gr........... Not interested in any of the heavy stuff or copper solids.

I realize every barrel is different but there has to be some small consistencys within brands to give me a starting place.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Unfortunately you may have to spent the $$ to find out which sabot shoots the best in YOUR gun. A friend of mine shoots the exact same set-up as me. Same gun, barrel and scope. I shoot Federal 1 oz sabots and he shoots Remington 1 oz sabots. Why ?, his gun is not as accurate shooting Federal sabots and shoots better groups at 100 yards with Remington. I have even shot his gun using my federal sabots and could not hold the tight groups as I could with my gun. The moral to the story is you have to find out for yourself which sabots shoots best out of your gun. My recommendation is Federal 1 oz sabots, but that’s just to get some baseline data on groups at 100 yards.

I can tell you what shoots great in my gun, but there is always the chance it won't work in your gun. You are going to have to as they say "bite the bullet" and buy a couple of different brands to see for sure what your gun likes. No easy way out of this one I am afraid. Good shooting.

I know my rifle is the same way to some extent putting different loads/brands in different places on the paper and with differing degrees of accurecy. The reason I asked is that I've been lead to believe that for some reason rifled shotgun barrels are even more selective.......

Thanks for the replys.

Rifled barrels and sabots seem to be in a world of their own. I have shot some that go into almost an inch to inch and a half at 100 yards (rem copper solids) and sometimes Lightfields. You just don't know which will work best, other than the 2 I mentioned as they worked best for me in 2 different rifled barrels...A Remington 870 amd an Ithaca Deerslayer ll with the Ithaca being the more accurate of the 2.
