2" M&P Price Check, need input ASAP

I have the chance to pick up a gorgeous 2" S&W M&P this week. I am closing my collection under the PRK laws.

California prices are high, especially on older guns as they are only available as either C&R or private party. FFL's cannot sell handguns not on the "Approved list".

The seller is asking $399. The gun is, to the best of my ability to determine, unfired. Very nice diamond grips as well.

Am I getting completely hosed if I take the offer or just paying on the high side of the range?

On another note, I bought a 1916 Colt New Service converted from .455 Elay to .45LC today. Nice clean Canadian military proof marks. Paid $345. I will post pictures after I pick it up on the 27th.

Agree with Mike.
High...
But it seems Californians are going to have to get used to getting hosed. In many ways.

GnR,

I would do it considering your location and such. Hell, I gave $350 for a "55" pre-28 in 95% condition. Forgot about the price a long time ago & am just enjoying the gun. ;)

In my part of the world I'd give $250 or so.

How many $250 pristine 2" M&P's are you finding out there in that there desert, burrhead? :)

The price is only too much if there is an equally fine specimen conveniently available at a lower price. It's the law of supply and demand.

Your choice: Buy the gun that you want in the condition you want at a price that some might consider a little high or continue searching in hopes you may or may not find another one in the same condition.

I faced the same situation coincidentally with the very same revolver. I bought it.

Paul

PS. The price might be a touch high for a Model 10 but if it's a Model 12, it's a good price.
