2 lb gun too heavy for concealment?

That one got my attention. For the last thirty years, I have carried mostly S&W .44 Magnums, or 1911's, concealed, and I have only been "made" when I allowed someone close enough to touch me, like a girl friend giving a hug. I carry a ParaOrdnance P14 daily in a Galco NSA, with two magazines on the off-side hip, and I believe that totals slightly more than 2 pounds!!!

Are you saying that .45+P is not big enough? 185 grn Corbons hit about as hard as a good .357 Magnum, although not as hard as a .44 Magnum. I defy you to shoot a .44 Magnum as quickly as a 1911, although, obviously, it is going to be as accurate. Most altercations end after a couple of rounds, but on the very rare occaision that TSHTF, too much ammo is better than not enough. Like a seat belt, you have it not because you expect to use it, but just in case that 1 in a 1,000,000 moment comes hunting for you.

Uuuhh, Thanatos,
I think he was agreeing with you.

For a little over twenty years I have carried a six inch "N" frame Smith (either a model 57 or 29). I also carry either a couple of speed loaders and/or an 18 round ammo pack in my hip pocket. I'm not sure what the total weight is but after all these years I hardly notice it. Now if it were not there then I would notice. ;)

My loaded CQB is 44 oz. Add in two loaded magazines and I'm over 3 lbs. Consider the fact I'm only 115-120 lbs, I have no problems carrying it all day.

Hummm, I've read thos articles stating how hard it is to carry a real pistol all daylong. I've been totin' a 1911A1 with a spare magazine or two for a long time, I don't notice the weight. When it ain't there, then I notice just like Gunslinger said.

My sig 220 is 2 pounds 3 oz+ loaded.I don't think thats too heavy in fact if I carry a lighter gun I miss the weight.I allso carry one spare mag at 7.2 oz.I am not including the weight of the leather to hold all this. Its not to heavy

Only 2 pounds? There's some around here that carry more than that in spare ammo alone. I carry a SA 1911 7+1, another mag either counterbalance, or in the concealment holster that Gunslinger sells. I don't know how much that weighs in at, but IIRC, the gun is over 2 pounds empty.

I have this lifelong friend (40 yrs since we met in Cub Scouts), and Larry used to carry a Lorcin .380 in a belly band. Laugh at that Lorcin if you want, but I watched him hit 2" cubes at 50' as easily with that Lorcin as I did with a .44 or .45acp. The point is that he had a problem concealing that "little" gun, and doing it comfortably. Larry is one of those laconic guys who never gets excited. As a present to my best friend, I built him a ParaOrdnance P-14, and handed it to him with a Galco NSA holster. Dubious, he tried it on. He was happy when it was concealed under a sweatshirt, over-joyed when a T-shirt covered it, and absolutely giddy when it didn't print under a loose tank top and running shorts!!!He was like a school girl finding out that the newest heart throb bubble gum group would be making a special appearance at her 13th birthday party. Balanced on the offside with 2 14rnd mags, you're carrying about 6 lbs, and it really disappears.
It is not the size of the gun, but how you carry it.
My friend now carries a fullsize .45 places he would never carry that .380, and with 43 rounds of ammo rather than 13(?). The .45 shoots follow-up shots much more quickly, hits MUCH harder with 230grn HydroShocks, and is presented in a fraction of the time of that .380 with the belly band. He never would have believed it without trying it, and would not have tried it unless under pressure to make use of the gift.
Sometimes the things which really work do not sound logical.

I meant carry full-size guns, because if you are a civilian and need to pull it out, bad guys will defer much faster to a '1911 / 4" .357 / hi-cap 9mm' when they see it, just my experience.......yes I was agreeing.......

I think my S&W Mountain Gun in .45ACP would make the perfect carry gun. Once the badguy sees those 6 big holes pointing at him, he is not going to cause any trouble.

You get used to the weight real quickly. This weekend, I completed the shooting portion of LFI-1. It was fairly high speed and we had to load magazines on the move and while on the line. I also kept spare mags in my pockets to cut reload time (moving them from my pocket to the double mag pouch). For two days I carried a Glock 17, two hi-caps (fully loaded), 3-4 10 rounders (loaded to 9 rounds), holster, double mag pouch, and about 50 loose rounds in my pokcets. I got used to the weight real quicly.
