2 Kimber Problems and Questions

One, the plunger tube came loose on my Kimber Pro Carry.

Two, the ejector? (small part on top left of the frame near the hammer) is loose on my Kimber Ultra Elite.

I plan to returns it to the dealer tomorrow. Both only have about 600 rounds fired through them. Has any one else had similar problems?

Must admit both shoot to point of aim.

I have been criticized here in the past for pointing out these problems with Kimber and Colt pistols.

Fortunately,it sounds like you were at the range rather than in a self defense situation.

If you have a good dealer,he can probably have Kimber take care of it for you. If not,any good 1911 smith can restake the plunger and reset the ejector. No biggie. However,if the plunger tube pops out during use, your gun is down,in most cases.

A little friendly advise..When you here things like, "we sell them faster than we can make them" or "we are having to constantly expand to meet our demands",then it is time to take a close look at the product. New employees, preasure to ship, preasure to increase the bottom line, are things that happen. Human nature being what it is,mistakes can and will be made. Is Kimber a bad company or product? Certainly not. Can mistakes happen? Sure.

As with most 1911's,check them over good when you get them,if you are familiar with the nuanses of the gun,or have a smith check it out, especially if the gun is to be used for defense.

A little insurance is never a bad idea.

Good Luck!

Etc,

Thank you for your response. Both Kimbers were my first 1911's. Kimbers came highly recommended by many. I have been pleased with the accuracy. However, these problems have been a real disappointment due to the little service each has seen.

I hope they are remedied by Kimber.

I won't go into the various problems I,ve had with Kimbers in the past, I'll just answer your quetion: Yes, I had a Kimber Ultra Elite and the extractor broke. Kimber sent me a new one at no charge which I installed myself. As I continued to have problems with the extractor I sold it. BTW, The pistol had approx. 500 rounds through it when this happened.
Good Shooting!

Vee,
Did the plunger tube fall off after the match?
On the loose ejector, it may be the ejector pin is broken, mine on my Colt broke after about 12000, my gunsmith put another pin in at no charge.
I think if you have other guns to shoot while you're waiting, you can contact the Kimber Custom Shop and they'll send you the parts to replace the defective ones. It's much cheaper and quicker than sending the entire guns back to the factory. Rusty at David's Gun Room can put them on, or I can talk to my gunsmith for you.
I'm sorry you have those problems.
The person to talk to at Kimber is Joe Seuk, his email is "jseuk@kimberamerica.com".

I finally had a chance to shoot my Kimber Polymer yesterday following problems with feeding, ejecting, and the slide not locking back. After a new slide stop and clip, I'm happy to say I had no failures at the range whatsoever. Joe Seuk was also the fellow I dealt with also.
