2 inch shells?

Has anyone used two inch shotshells? I was reading my Hodgdons reloading manual last night and they had a section on cutting down the 2 3/4 in shell to 2 inches. I dont know if their is any practical reason to do this other than really reduced recoil, or if it is even practical in a modern shotgun. Any info would be usefull. Thanks in advance.

Several English gunmakers bult two-inch guns. I've handled several made by Skimmen & Wood that were terrific, beautiful and weighed less than six pounds. The English love 12-bores and generally consider anything smaller to be either a woman's or a boy's gun. Two-inch guns are loaded to shoot less than an ounce of shot and pattern very well. Holland & Holland also built a few. For an American, they're kind of like a fringe gun and somewhat eccentric. I'd love to own one.
