2" Buckshot Rounds

Having recently relocated from the fascist state of New Jersey to The Great State of Texas, I've been giddily browsing in gun stores all over northeast TX.
I keep the giggling and drooling to a minimum and haven't been tackled by the staff anywhere yet.

I had seen in the internerd that there was a wondrous thing; 2" shotgun shells with six pellets of 00 Buck in each. What a wild idea! So, out tonight, I stopped in one of these purveyors and bought a box of ten to try in my Mossberg 590A1. For the el cheapo price and the novelty, what the heck! If they work decent at intermediate distances that's two extra rounds in the tube and the possibility of less worry regarding over-penetration.

Any of you folks ever tried these little guys? I bought the Centurion brand, Law Enforcement type.

Many/most pump shotguns will not function reliably with these short shells.

These short shells were designed for use in a short shotgun with a magazine that fed through the pistol grip. These guns were only imported for a short time and were not a success on the market.

The shells are still available, and work very well in single or double guns, but unless you permanently modify a pump gun, they usually won't work well or at all.
Some unaltered guns do, but may still throw in a failure from time to time, so they aren't reliable enough for self defense.
If you modify a gun to work reliably with the short shells, it's no longer usable with standard length shells.

These shells have some possible use in the penal system... they don't care if they kill the guy but with more capacity, They can sure put the fear of god in a large number of unruly, fighting, rioting prisoners in a hurry...:D

These and the even shorter "mini shells" are nicknamed "poacher shells" around here... Fired thru an auto loader gas gun one at a time... much quieter than a 2 3/4 00 round.

Unreliable in a repeater, unfortunately, as said. Lotta people talk about 'em for SxS's -- I haveta scratch my head about that advantage, and...

Hogdog, these are 12 ga. so you should recuse yourself from the discussion here also as though you are familiar with them, again, right?

Well... I know a guy who's brother's uncle's 3rd cousin knew a guy with a 12 gauge once...;)
