2:10 AM life in the fast laneSat 4/22/00

Well, here it is 2:58 am and I am up out of a
sound sleep, weather I want to be or not, yet again and for the second night in a row.

The Toasters Choice Bar in the East Gate Shopping Center had a dance friday night and again Sat nite.
The bar is about 250 yards behind my house ;the 250 yards being so called
"customer" parking.

At 2 AM the bar closes ,but the drunks,
all 800 of them, do not get in their cars and quietly go home.

Instead, they turn on their car radios really ,really loud, all on the same station, open up their car trunks and take out their coolers with whatever drinks are contained therein and continue to party.

Within 10 minutes a fight breaks out.
Sometimes with fists; sometimes with knives
& sometimes with tire irons and twice this year with handguns.

The party and fights, if left to themselves, would continue well into 3AM.

My property abutes the drunkards parking area
and I get to listen to their angry crowd noise, radios , shouts and screams and car
motors over reved, tires squeeling and horns honking ; as well as several testings of their various auto alarm systems.

And for the privledge of listening to this twice weekly night time sarinade, I get to pay the city of Waterbury, Ct. 12,000.oo
a year in property tax.

Now I realize that my home is zoned commercial and that is why I am able to run a gun shop on the premises, but there is such a thing as a good nights sleep; only not on friday and sat nights.

Friday night the so called "club" featured
a white man's band and the lot filled with new cars and nicely dressed people.

They were still all drunk at 2:10 am and
noisy, and woke me up out of a sound sleep;but two police cars were in attendance
"for the safety of the patrons."

Soon to arrive were two police vans , one the paddy wagon and the other the K9 drug unit.

Jack booted, kevilar encased thugs were running through the parking lot with barking police dogs looking for and finding smack and cocaine dealers. Arrests were made.

Such was the action in Larry's back yard on Friday nite.

Now for Sat nite: I went to bed at 10pm and was awaked at 2:10 pm by car horns ,radios
playing cookaratchas music and shouts, howls and screams.

Another 800 people in the lot, all drunk and all hispanic.
Tonights dance band must have been a latin
band.
About 400 left and went home while the other
400 stayed to party.
I listened to this for about 15 minutes
and the noise level was steadly increasing;
a fight broke out and no police cars were in attendance.

So, I employed my phone and within in 10 minutes the first police car arrived.

I never saw 400 cars vacate a parking lot so qiuckly. All 400 cars .......GONE........ in 60 seconds at 50 mpg
red lights were run and speed limits were broken.

By the time the first police car could make one circuit of the parking lot at 35 mph
the lot was vacant.

5 other police cars arrived within the
next 5 minutes; only to cruse a vacant parking lot.
The first police car had spooked off the entire lot in only 60 seconds.

A lot of 400 cars does not , under any normal circomstances, empty in only 60 seconds but rather requires about 10 to 15 minutes to vacate; so guards had been posted and an early warning signal established and a proceedure outlined in advance.

One could suspect well organized gang activity in view of such actions.

It was quite a sight to see 400 cars bug out
in 60 seconds at high speed being spooked by only one police car. LOL, almost worth being woke up for.

But , here I am ,wide awake but too tired
to get back to sleep ,my circadium rythem all messed up and typing on tfl.

"Say la vive" or something somewhat similar!

Holy smoke! My excuse isn't nearly that good. I got completely whipped this afternoon off loading 2200 lbs of horse manure for the wife's garden and went to bed early. EARLY, like 6 PM! Of course, I woke up and here I am. I've got another trailer load of "wonder soil" to off load in the morning. Maybe I could shoot it off? Hmmmmm.

A nice home video of the 'party' would do wonders for assisting LEOs with valuable intel.

Just as I'm typing this, some guy is in my apartment complex parking lot testing his car stereo. No respect!

When I was in school, the outside noise on the weekends was pretty loud. In addition to this, my roomate had a girlfriend that would SNORE really loud. (no kidding!). My solution was to sleep with my shooting muffs on. Not exactly the most comfortable way to sleep, but it was sure better than listening to mahogany getting sawn.

ernest2,

I've heard of early wake-up calls, but what you're having to deal with on the weekends is ridiculous.
I've always been a very light sleeper, which has always been a blessing and a curse.
Can't imagine having to put up with the aggravation over a period of time; figure you've already got enough headaches just by owning your own business.
Guess the odds of the bar losing its liquor license, sold or being re-zoned into something else are not too great.
Hang in there.
Could be worse: "They" could start knocking on your door asking to 'borrow' some of your merchandise...

...defend the 2nd., it protects us all.
No fate but what we make...

I like the video taping routine. Add to it really, really bright floodlights to illuminate the parking lot to get good pictures.

I feel your pain...really. Years ago I lived in an apartment which had a nightclub next door. I hated nightclubs then and now.

I can understand your frustration - I prefer sleeping through the night myself. Your story has reminded me of the 18 months I spent living across the street from an ambulance garage/dispatch center. That never got boring as you never knew when the sirens would start howling. My only salvation was that those were my young and very foolish days of much too much beer most nights putting me in a dream state nothing short of bodily harm could have shaken me out of.

If you're not a little upset with the way the world is going, you're not paying attention.

Check the laws on noise polution (or similar?) to see if there is something like i you can hear a car stereo withing 50 feet of the car or maybe a certain dB level at a certain distance. When the noise level goes too high, give the cops a call. Be sure to call them every time the noise law is broken. You might feel like a pest, but these people in the parking lot are the real pests.

I used to live in an apartment building with a window on the parking area. There was always something entertaining going on out there. I got to a point where I would just call the cops everytime anything was up at all. There was one guy who would park his car in the lot and sit in it with the radio loud enough to shake windows on the opposite side of the building. He would alway shut it down befor the cops got there though. A guy I know in one of the other appts got pissed enough about it that he was throwing D cell batteries at the car every time it happened. Someone also broke this guys window out one night. They never did stop annoying the building though.
