Bought a brand new Ziess scope last week, and finally got it mounted on my .308, and went to the range this morning.
Started out at 25 feet, because I had not bore sighted it first, and my first shot was 6" high and to the right about 3".
I adjusted my scope, and the next shot was 9" high and 6" to the right.
I thought I had adjusted it wrong, so I re-adjusted, making sure to turn the increments exactly as marked on the scope.
My next shot was completely off the paper.
As it turns out, the markings on the scope are completely backwards. What is marked UP is actually DOWN, and what is marked RIGHT is actually LEFT.
After I finally figured it out, the scope adjusted perfectly, and is now sighted in at 100 yards. I will probably use the scope as is, until after this season, but they will get it back as soon as season is over.
First time I have ever seen anything like this, especially from Ziess.:)

??? You mean you're going to use the scope this season, then send it back to them? I've heard of women doing the same thing with evening gowns and prom dresses....never thought that was right. Say it ain't so Bill....

Ever thought it might be marked right. If you want the bullet hole up turn it up, bullet shot down turn towards down. Maybe th KISS concept.?????????????????

I think he was implying he meant to send it back for them to make it right.
I know if I bought a fine optic piece like a zeiss I would expect them to have invested a few bucks in the instruction manual to make sure it clearly stated which way to twist the turrets for proper POI change.
Are zeiss subject to counterfeit? I know I bought a set of Ray-Ban glasses from a pilots store and broke them wrestlin' with my son and sent them in for repair. They sent them back with a nice letter to show the merchant stating they were fakes...

Fisherman66, you just did a big Oopsie. Suggestion: Don't go to Germany and try to drive on the "wrong" side of the road--unless you're heavy into mating up hood ornaments.

:D:D:D

I may be kinky, but never that kinky.

So it's me that drives on the wrong side of the road? I stand corrected. Perhaps it's just the design of the roads, or intersections in particular.

Germany and France; they drive on the same side of the road as we do. Same in Switerland and Austria. I haven't heard of any changes since I was last there in 2000.

Some years ago Leupold had some scopes come out with the same problem. I think it was a low powered dangerous game scope. They sent out recall notices and replaced the dials at no cost. I had one on an African rifle and I think it went on safari before it went back for the fix.

Didn't mean I would use it, and return it for my money back. I meant I would use it because it is to close to season to change it now. I will just make them replace it, with one that is right. Between Bow hunting, and muzzleloader season, I just don't want to mess with it right now.
You guys made me wonder if Ziess might be different from every scope I have ever owned, so I went back and checked the marking, just to make sure, and they are totally backwards. Scope works great, as long as you remember everything is backwards. You just have to remember, if your bullet hits high, you must adjust your scope up, and ect.:)
