1st indoor range trip with my new cannon

So I recently purchased a totally impratical but kick azz fun to shoot S&W 460XVR w/ 12" bbl . One fact I immediately realized when you shoot a .460 mag in an older, loud and kinda small indoor range , you OWN the range !

I belong to a gun club, but here in NH it's been so dam cold that shooting after an hour outdoors is just not fun, and can get dangerous if your fingers loose feeling from the cold. So I have a small local indoor range, and I called a buddy whom I ocassionaly shoot with and we took a road trip.

I also brought my Glock G35 , and my Ruger MKIII .22 . The indoor range was busy, all 6 lanes were occupied mostly a younger crowd shooting tati-cool 9mm's and 45 acp's . No magnums. So I shoot both the .22 and the .40 and now it's time to load up the cannon. A female bystander see's me pull the 460 out of my case and her jaw dropped, she runs over to her boyfriend and says, you gotta' see this gun !!! He turns around and starts laughing, usually stupid comment "dirty harry called he want's his 44 back !" I reply:" Ha-Ha yea I get it". I quickly replied mimicking Clint's harsh voice : "This gun will blow your head AND your torso clean off". So I step up to the line and let the shots BOOM, and trust me the BOOM is so loud echoeng off every wall , Immediately every other shooter is in silence, now i'm focused at my target, however I hear a lot of laughter behind me after each flame ball boom shot , after my 5 shots I turn around and every shooter was huddled behind my lane and I get an applaud. One guy yells "We are all wide awake now dude !!!!" So for this reason alone a big magnum is useless but definately makes for a conversation piece !

Hahahaha that's the most awesome thing I've seen...
If you gotta go not practical you gotta do it right!!! Looks like fun all the way

That's funny! I can't imagine shooting a 460 indoors. Outdoors is bad enough. They always seem to attract a crowd.

Yes, indoors is quite a "unique" experience... not only do I experience an earth shattering boom (and my 12" bbl version dioes not use a brake), the flame blast is equally as fierce ! Should be a interesting experience shooting my .460 scoped at dusk..

LOL! Your experience is typical. :D . Similar experience with .454. Always get the "is that a .44 Magnum?" thing too, to which I'll reply, "Somewhere well beyond 100 yards it will slow down to be like a .44".

Congratulations on your new piece. Looks like a lot of barrel to draw from a belt holster, though. ;)

No holster for me. This is specifically a prone/benchrest ocassional off hand target pistol. If by chance I do need to carry, this specific 12" model comes with a sling.
