1st Generation Kahr MK9 Problems

I have a Kahr MK9 1st generation. Bought in May of 1998, serial GA13 hundred series. I don't really shoot it that much, so I have put less than 50 rounds through it. I know that the manual says 200 rounds, but when I am at the range, I prefer the Glock. Just lazy I guess.

My question is that I have heard some realiability questions of the 1st generation MK9 (jams, etc). Other than a few failures to battery, I have no complaints, but I wondered if there are problems with the 1st generation, and if so what I can do about it. One thing I have heard is that the newer magazines are better than the older ones.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

The first generation MK9's have a bad recoil spring assy., if you send your pistol in they'll fix it free. If you call them and ask I'll bet they'll send you one free so you don't spend the approx. $30 on UPS. My first generation serial # is GAO3** and had the failure to go into battery problem a bunch of times even after the 200 round break-in (it would be about 1/8" out of battery). Since they swapped out the recoil spring I haven't had any problems whatsoever (about 6,000 rounds through the gun now).

There were a number of changes made in the MK9. The recoil system was only one. All changes SHOULD have been completed by GA0700. No problems have been reported since GA1000 so anything higher than that should be okay.

I have one of the LTD series. Do you know if this run was after the ones you mentioned? I have had ZERO malfuctions since I bought it but just curious...

Harry, I don't think that the LTD was available initially. All of the MK9's were produced as standard pistols when they first came out.
