1st experiences loading .223 with RL15

Thus far had not experimented with RL15 simply based upon the fact that 15 has been very scarce as far as availability for the past few years. Over the past few years if I saw a pound I would buy one but just for stockpile. Now that I have about 5#'s I figured now I could start some testing. My first tests were 22 cal 69gr Nosler CC's. I was dam impressed it didn't take me long to find a sweet load for both my AR15 Varmint and my Savage 10FP. 24.6gr yielded .389 moa @ 2835 fps with my AR , and .539 moa @ 2745 fps with my Savage FP . So I guess it's obvious why RL15 flies off the shelf quickly at the hint of a "panic". I think I will give 15 a try for .308 as well.

Like you I've come to like Re15 for my 77gr OTM loads.

I ended up getting three pounds free a few months ago from a guy who ordered it by accident. He said the store (one of the big chain stores, forget which one) told him they would refund his money if he gave the powder to the local Sheriff's Office or Police Department for use or disposal. So... everyone knows I reload so they gave me the call... 3 free pounds of Re15... put a smile on my face.

It's a great powder for the heavier .224 stuff no doubt. I load it in my .308 too. Have loaded it in the 30/06 with a 150 grain bullets as well. It's a good powder. God Bless

My rifles like Reloder 15 with 77 and 80 grain Sierra and Nosler CC's. Rel 15 is supposed to be identical or the same powder as Norma 203B and made in the same plant.

A buddy gave me a pound of it a few years ago when powders started to get scarce (most of his loading equipment had been stolen). Didn't do much with it until I started running out of Varget and could not get more; discovered it was a great choice for heavier .223 loads - luckily it has come up at the local supply fairly regularly, unlike Varget. I don't plan on changing back either.

RL 15 works great in my AR with 69 and 77 grain bullets.
It is my favorite powder for my .22-250.
It used to be my favorite powder in my .308s until I discovered VV N140.

Too bad it is so hard to find. I'm down to my last 2 lbs.

47.2 gr of re15 behind a 150 gr Hornady SST is my deer hunting load. I get sub-MOA consistently with it.

I also have loads with IMR4064 and BLC-2 but RE15 gives me the best accuracy.

Thanks for this thread, I've had a couple pounds of this sitting around for a while and have been thinking of trading it off. I've been using IMR4064 for heavier bullets with good results, but will have to give this a try as well.
