I posted this on the High Road and thought I would put it over here too. I know it isn't that hard, but it is a proud moment when you finish your first AR.

For my birthday my wife let me get all the parts and pieces to build my first AR. Had a lot of fun and learned a ton. Haven't shot it yet, just finished putting it together a few minutes ago. I know I used some parts that some may say aren't fantastic but from what I learned and read on this forum and others, it will work just fine for me.
Stag - buttstock, lower parts kit, upper receiver, bolt/carrier group, gas block
Daniel Defense barrel
Yankee Hill free floated handguard
DPMS lower, gas tube, 3 prong flash hider

Optics

I hope Santa brings me the red dot I asked for. I will add back-up sights as well. Looking forward to trying some optics, changing, buying new, adding some, taking some off, you know the drill.
Any recommendations that doesn't break the bank for flip up back-up sights. I was looking at some Pro-Mags that were around $50 per sight.

My procedure is load a mag with a dummy below a live round. Rack the live round in and fire it,pulling the trigger fully rearward and holding it. Don't worry about hitting anything just shoot it. Watch the empty case so you can pick it up and inspect it. The dummy should be chambered and you should be able to engage the safety. If you can't engage the safety, it probably means the hammer didn't cock or didn't stay cocked(either instance is bad). If everything seems OK and the fired case looks good, you can do this a couple more times. If all is good, load two live rounds and try seeing where you're hitting. After about 10 rounds, you can clean the bore and really start checking your sights. If a runaway was going to occur, it would probably happen within the first 10 shots.

Good advice. I will use it. Thanks and keep the advice coming everyone on TFL. I like it and I use it.
I will report back after I get to shoot it. Probably after Christmas.
