I was wondering about the purchase of high-capacity magazines. On teh website were i ahve bought high-cap mags it says that:
All magazines over 10-Round Capacity are "PROHIBITED" from import or sale in the United States and Canada for civilian use. A limited number of extended capacity magazines manufactured prior to enactment of the U.S. Crime Bill may be still available. if i were to buy some high-cap magazines now i beleive that i am not breaking any laws but the wording is so confusing that it mkes me stop and wonder. anybody out there to calm my nerves?

The way I understand it (which could be entirely wrong), is that and magazines that hold over ten rounds which were made after the law was passed has wording stamped on it that it is for military, law enforcement or export outside of the United States (or words similar to that). If you buy, sell or have in your possession any magazines of this type and you are not a LEO, you are committing a felony. Hi-Cap mags which were made prior to the passing of this law do not have that wording on it and are legal to own, buy, sell, etc.

That's my understanding of it. Otherwise, you wouldn't be seeing ads in magazines & catalogs for these hi-cap mags because they would be committing a crime and I'm sure the BATF would have said something about it to them to prevent these sales. Again, just my $0.02 worth.

Other than CA and a few other states (MD)
30 round mags are legal to purchase as long as they are pre ban manufacture. Thats before September of 1994. Watch out though.

i had a half dozen center industries Ar mags in my hands last fall at a gun show.
18 bucks a pop.
they were date stamped 1998 manufacture but not stamped LEO/Mil...
if the price is to good, there is a reason.

They have yet to prosecute anyone for solely possessing postban mags.

Maybe they are waiting to excile ya...
