1993 Taurus PT92 AF

I recently took my old 1993 PT 92 AF to the range for the first time in quite a while. It still shoots good, it's still accurate, although not as tight as my fleet of Beretta pistols.

It's had thousands of rounds fired through it and it's been through a lot. it was my first automatic when I was 22 years old, it was my camping, hiking, backpacking gun for a lot of years and was carried often, and often in some bad weather. I can shake the pistol and get a little rattle out of it.

It's been on a steady diet of +P and 9mm NATO its entire life. I believe it currently needs a new main recoil spring.

Some wear on the slide lugs, much of it finish wear, but some of them can be felt with a fingernail.

It turns out the recoil spring is worn to the point its about 3/8" shorter than it should be (when the spring is fully unloaded). I replaced it with a stock Beretta 92 spring for now and ordered a couple others.

A lot of guys really love these beretta clones. I hear they are decent guns, although i personally wouldnt spend my hard earned money on a taurus

I wouldn't by one now, just because I'll buy an American made pistol before anything else, but I certainly can't knock the Taurus. When I bought it, I really wanted, but could not afford a Beretta. I paid half the price of a Beretta back then.

I bought one brand-new around 1990. It is still going strong. My FiL and I both prefer it to his old-fashioned Beretta 92, due to its superior safety design and better trigger.

On the other hand, I like my "Frankenstein" (American slide and Italian frame) Beretta Model 96 better than either.

IIRC, Taurus bought the Beretta factory in Brazil, machinery and all, so their PT92 is probably more true to the original than your typical clone.

I have a Taurus PT92C that was bought used. My opinion is that it is a nice gun. Very accurate with a good trigger.

Yes Taurus has produced some clunkers but the early 92's isn't one of them.

I have a PT-99 and a PT-92 both purchased used. Both are more accurate than I and very reliable.

The PT-92 is an early model with the "european" mag release located at the bottom, rear of the grip.
