1991A1 adjustable sites

I would stay with fixed sights, sighted-in to your load of choice.

Fixed sights are generally more durable, lower-profile, and less likely to get knocked out of alignment.

Good combat work can be done with fixed sights.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Regarding fixed sights I tend to agree with you for self defense guns, but I have other pistols for that. This is mainly just a take to the range to enjoy and everybody should have a 1911 sort of gun.

If I could trouble you folks just once more will the front sight have to be replaced as well with the Bomar rear sight? and will a gunsmith have to install the rear sight or can it just be driven in to take the place of the old one?

The front sight will likely need to be replaced. There are a variety of BoMars available that include a melted installation that requires machining of the slide, or, a high profile version that needs a rather substantial(height wise) front sight. Height on the front sight was .312 for my installation, but the .280 is what is standard with the BMCS-2 high profile sight.

I had the high profile installed and it did require some fitting by a local gunsmith. Not much, but some.

If you go with BoMars you will be getting a great sight. I highly recommend you have it installed.
This is from someone who likes to play kitchen table gunsmith from time to time. ;)
