I came across an ad for a Browning High Power made in 1988, serial number 245PP74440. He's selling it for $600. I'm not too sure of the valuation of the gun, but I think price may be a bit high considering the condition. Knowledge able opinions would be greatly appreciated, as I am looking to buy this for my father.

Pictures are attached.

BHP

I can not see the top of the slide...but is there a small rib running the length...from the front sight to the rear? the finish looks a lot like the matt/parkerized finish on the MK11 which have the rib...I had one...was a very accurate reliable BHP...

and the price is not unreasonable

Looks like a factory MkII Hi-Power that has had the grips replaced with Pachmayrs and has some mild finish wear. If you just want a shooter, you can get an Israeli surplus MkII with a beat-to-heck finish (much, much worse than that but good mechanically) for around $425-490 online. The Israelis will not have the firing pin safety. That one may or may not have it.

I'd say $600 is a fair price; but not an impressive one.

Looks like a MKII to me because of the hog nose on the slide/barrel profile. 1988 is a transitional year.

Look at the magwell. Does it have the serration lines?

$600 is an OK price. You are not getting killed on it but you are not getting and amazing deal. Look at CDI sales http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=526724892

They have surplus BHPs in good to excellent condition for less.

AIM also has a new batch of surplus guns as well.
