I have one that I am going to list for a friend. I would guess 95% condition--I am no expert on finishes, etc.

What would be a fair price and what would be top dollar?

I would search the various gun auction sites; Gunbroker, GunsAmerica, ect and get an idea of current pricings, as the market is fickle and prices vary widely from month to month, But the Python is very collectable in any form and the least I've seen them is $400 or so in shooter condition, safe queens usually start at over $1000.

If they're really factory grips and it's 95%, you're in $2,500+ territory. There's not a lot of Python snubs out and about.

Lots of variables and unknowns here. But the $1750 - $2250 neighborhood is not unrealistic at all, if it's in nice condition.

I have an '83, blued, 6", orig wood grips, 95% cond. If someone waived 2-grand under my nose, I'd turn and walk - completely unphased.

Check Gun Broker and Guns International. I'm guessing this revolver should go out at $2,500.00 +++.

If you are going to do the Internet auction thing. Take lots of detailed photos, and have a good write up to go along with the photos. If you can't take high quality photos yourself, get someone who can even if you have to pay for the photos you will recoup the cost with the increase in the selling price.

Good Luck

P.s. I just checked Guns International and found four Pythons advertised, all are 4" guns. Prices are as follows: $2,750.00, $2250.00, $2499.00, and $3,199.00
Generally 2 1/2" Pythons go for MORE than the 4" versions.

Here in California i never see a python for under 2k , Just saw one today for $6250 . It was a snub in nickle with all the goodies (box, papers presentation case). I like the pythons but would never pay the prices there getting for them .If its just the gun with not goodies and little wear I think the $2500 - 3000 would do it . Its easy to come down in price if it is not selling .

A 2" Python with factory ivory for $2,500?

I will take every one of those you wish to sell at that price. I will keep the first one for myself and sell the rest on Gunbroker for 5K each.

Hell, a regular Python with a common barrel length and wood stocks routinely fetches 3K or more these days. A 2" Python will draw bids over 4K all day. Add original ivory stocks...I want 5K for sure.
