Any advantage to the 70s models 30/30 vs todays other than the crossbolt safety. Anyone own both? How does quality compare? Thanks.

Can't help you much, but if that weapon was made after 1964, its quality was less. In 1964, Winchester's brass decided to go for cheaper ways to make weapons. More parts got stamped instead of machined, etc.

However, if that t'were mine, I'd still treasure it. They can't be worn out, they are the definitive woods rifle, and even the most egregious example of bottom line economics works better than most of the competition. And,John Browning didn't make junk...

70s models are drilled and tapped for peep sights. That and a set of sling swivel studs complete the list of mods they need.
