I'm sitting on a piece of history I really want to learn about. My grandpa gave it to me and the story goes that his dad gave it to him. Its supposed to be a WW2 German K98 8mm mauser. It has 17 German Eagles on swastikas and below that is the inscription WaA623. It has all matching part numbers on the gun they all have 8122 on them including the stock.

Ibelieve thats a Steyr-Daimler-Puch (plant of mfg). Which would be a Luftwaffe (German Air Force) rifle or " Luftwaffe Karabiner " (carbine).
Is there a G29/40 on the left side of the reciever? pics are hard to make out.
If only a G29o that would be made in Austria.

There is neither. You are right I did find out it's a Luftwaffe, it is stamped with the"L" below the first of 3 german eagles on the right side of the stock. From what I have read so far since I posted this the gun I have is a rare make. I can't seem to find a price tag for it though the only identical one I have found the man wanted $5000 is that even a reasonable price? anyone have any ideas what it might be worth or where I can find out?

Post some better pics in the Curios and Relics forum of this site. They will be able to tell you what you have.

By better, I mean:

The whole rifle

Macro shots of the action, bolt and any stampings

Be sure that the pics are clear and the stampings stand out.

Took your advice pictures turned out good this time(I'm having to take them with my computer) posted them in Curios and Relics. Thanks
