1927 Sistema for Bullseye

Does anyone have experience upgrading an Argentinian Sistema Colt 1927 to a semi-competitive Bullseye gun? I'm thinking about one for a hardball gun.

Any ideas on some quick upgrades (adjustable sites, trigger job, new barrel...?) short of sending it out for months to a gunsnith?

Thanks!

The gun has ZERO defects except the Sights.

Fix that and it is a SUPER HIGH Quality Colt .45.

Hope that helps!

I made several changes to my Sistema Colt and it is at least as accurate, maybe more accurate, as my Sig220 off a rest. I won't say this is "bullseye" quality by any means but I'm very pleased.

1st step was to buy and read Kuhnhausen's 1911 Vol. 1.
Next step was careful measuring and replacement of the barrel bushing, took a couple of tries to get a good fit. Then replaced the milspec sights with adjustable rear from MecGar, had poor luck staking the MecGar front (and no luck getting a replacement)finally ordered a Millet front from Brownell's. I screwed up the original sear and replaced it with a pre-machined drop-in. Then replaced a variety of springs. Finally polished whatever Kuhnhausen said to polish.

I enjoyed the heck out of playing with it, and probably did not spend more than $100 in parts. What is great is that decent quality parts are inexpensive.

I shoot LSWC only and have no problem feeding at all. I keep getting smacked in the head with ejected brass, however, so I guess my choices are to duck or play with the extractor.

100% pleased with it.

Best Regards,

Jim

Jim - Try tuning the ejector before massing with the extractor.

11.43x23 - Were I you I would first test fire that gun for a baseline and make adjustments based on the needs of the gun.

Yup - ejector not extractor - mind thought one thing, fingers went and typed something else. Thanks

The tips about Kuhnhausen's book and benchmarking your pistol first are right on - there's a LOT of malarkey posted about M1911A1's and clones. Gun Tests tried a Sistema that shot 8" groups at 25 yards, so it's important to understand what you have to fix. A good used Ball gun runs $1,000 and will probably shoot 1.5" groups at 25 yards - some probably better. The AMU M1911A1's shot .875" groups at 50 yards.

BTW, Gun Tests also tested a SIG P220 last year - average groups at 25 yards 1.9". So someone apparently has the world's best Sistema, and the world's worst P220, both at the same time....

VVG:

With my handloads - 3.8 Clays, mixed brass, Star 200gr swc - I get pretty consistent 3" groups at 25 yards - If I had better eyes or a red dot on either of these handguns I think I could get it tighter. Don't think I have best or worst of either, just fine for my purposes.

Regards,
Jim
