The 1917 serial numbers are stamped on the butt in two lines. As example:
123
456
Would be serial number 123456.
Colt also stamped Colt factory New Service range serial numbers on the frame just below the barrel, inside the crane opposite the frame number, and inside the side plate.
There is argument as to which is the "real" serial number.
The US government considered the number on the butt to be the "official" serial number.
If you bought a Colt 1917 through the DCM back in the 1960's, the shipping papers listed the butt number as THE serial number.
Some Colt collectors consider the Colt factory numbers on the frame and crane to be the "real" number.
The value of the gun and holster depends entirely on the actual condition of each.
Value of the holster assumes it's the "correct" holster for a 1917.

It might be the 97th of that model, assuming that they started that model series with #1. Why don't you get a closeup with a digital camera and post it? You can sometimes enhance the markings on a blued gun with something like rubbing in a white crayon and buffing off the excess for photos, and it does not hurt anything, cleans off pretty easily.

OK, this thread is 5 or so years old, so those prices, if they were every achieved, are likely WAY out of date.

Welcome to TFL. If you need information on the guns that you've mentioned, please post new threads, one in the Revolver forum for the revolver, and one in the Shotgun forum for that gun.
In order to identify your guns, we can't do it with just a serial number. Numbers were frequently repeated among the different models.
In order to have a fighting chance, we need a full description of the guns, including action type (we know this, a revolver & a SxS shotgun), makers names and other markings if there are any on the gun, and CLEAR, well-lit photographs.
This thread actually petered out a long time ago, so I'm going to close it.
