1911 vs CZ-75 ($500-ish to spend)

Looking for input from people who have owned both. Selling my SAR B6P (CZ-75 clone) and wanting to buy an all-steel handgun to replace it since I have a lighter polymer 9mm for carry now.

I do like the CZ-75 ergos, having had a clone of it and all, so I'm kind of leaning that way. I also already have a nice stock of 9mm ammo.

The reason I'm considering a 1911 is the Rural King near me has a big selection of them (Some ATI's, RIA's, a Remington at least that I saw) right around the $500 mark. Don't currently own a .45 ACP firearm, so no ammo in stock.

I apologize because I know this might start a war, haha.

I lean towards the CZ, I have both, and I know everyone should have at least one 1911. However I use my CZ much more often since its much cheaper to shoot. And if you already like the platform of the CZ why not stick with it? If it ain't broke...

I've owned both. Liked both as well. Because of the fact you already have ammo I'd get the cz75. Then save for the 1911.

the 1911 is an amazing pistol. I have very little experience, I have only shot a Taurus PT1911($550-600) and a 10mm STI that was y buddies grandfathers. The Taurus was a beautiful gun, and I have never shot so well in my life. ten yards, bullseye-bullseye-bullseye right from the first shot, it was glorious. the 10mm STI: the old man handed it to me with five rounds in a mag, said "this is a 10mm now, make sure you have a grip on it", shooting from his back deck to the tree-line(good 25 yards or more), 4 shots in a 6" center and one flyer just outside the target area(if he didn't tell me, I would have assumed it was a 9mm from the recoil). this one had a red dot attached. both guns were the finest pistols I've ever shot.

but, I would still go with the CZ if I had neither. the CZ is the most practical defensive pistol ever created in my opinion. I have shot several thousands of rounds through a cz and a cz clone and never had a hint of a malfunction. great grip, awesome trigger, half-cock to single action is the perfect carry/HD configuration, high capacity and real-world accuracy that beats anything but the 1911. I really WANT a nice 1911, but I NEED a CZ.

I say go CZ unless you already have your personal choice of defensive pistols covered. if just for the range, the 1911 is pretty hard to beat for fun, but easily beat in practicality

p.s. don't scoff at a 9mm 1911

Well you've HAD the CZ so maybe it's time to try something different.

IMhO there's no wrong choice here. Gun Guru Colonel Jeff Cooper liked both. He was a huge 1911 fan but said great things about the CZ too so like I said if he liked both you can't go wrong here.

A small concern though is that for a really nice 1911, say like a Springfield Armory Range Officer, you'll have to go to $700.

That's a tough call. The Remington 1911 will be great if you get a good deal on it. If you can hold off another week or two and eat ramen you can just go pick up both. That's probably what I would do. Good luck!

Well, seems to be a resounding favoring of the CZ. May have someone willing to trade my B6P for a CZ with some fanangling to even up value now.

I have several of both platforms, and a decent amount of shooting experience. The CZ is a better pistol for range and defense with double the capacity and ammo that is 1/2 as expensive.

I have MUCH respect for the 1911 and love the platform. But it is a different beast, fickle, and more difficult to field strip and clean. Some won't feed HPs reliably. Others have their own magazine issues... you can easily spent a grand tuning a 1911 to make it run right... I would probably lean this way if I were in a state that limited magazine capacity and I suspect that's what rejuvenated the 1911 after the AWB. You can even get them in the low $300s if you look online and aren't brand picky.

The CZ lineup on the other hand is probably in the top tier of modern ergonomic handguns and much copied. You can get aftermarket mags that go 17, 18, and I think even 19 rounds that fit relatively flush.

Both are excellent in their own rights, but I'd go CZ.

The CZ-75 is a good pistol that would be nice in any collection. A Hi-Power would be even better.

The 1911 belongs in EVERY collection. Of the ones you mentioned I can speak highly of the Remington R1. I have three! :D

I just got a SAR K2 .45. Veeeeery nice pistola. Like I told my FFL, "Everybody needs a .45, right?" Get the CZ format in a .45 and have the best of all worlds! I am personally going to wait on a 1911 until I have more like a grand or so to spend on one.

Shopping around you can get a eaa witness match in 9mm around 550.

Top one in the pic.

+1 on the CZ. Take a look at the CZ97 if you want a 45. Fair warning though, the cz 97b is not for those with small hands.

I own a CZ 75, and have owned a budget 1911 (Rock Island Tactical). I still own the CZ 75, and bought a CZ 75 PCR. I traded the 1911 after less than 6 months.

In my opinion, you are much more likely to get a better gun spending $500 on a CZ 75B than you would a 1911. I decided that my next 1911 would be a higher end pistol, probably in the $800-$1000 range, and most likely made by Colt. You just need the extra attention that the higher price range gives to make a great 1911. The CZ 75B doesn't need that.

Plus, its a **** good gun!
