1911 "Type" holsters , will the Hi-Power work ?

Thinking of buying a holster. Some makers don't specify the Browning or FN Hi-Power but say 1911 type. Anyone with both know if the same holster will work with either pistol ? TIA.

I have a couple of belt slide type holsters that do fine with a HP or 1911. No way to know for sure except try it.

I had an old Galco Gunsite belt holster that stated it could be used for both, and it worked fine with both, with a little adjustment between them.

Ive tried/used the High Power in a couple of of others, and it was hit or miss. I think a lot will depend on if the holster is "formed", like out of kydex, or just more of a pocket, like many leather holsters, even those that have been molded to one gun or the other.

Thinking back, the High Power usually fit the .45 holsters better than the other way around.

I have an old Dillon holster that has a screw to adjust tightness.
It has carried my HPs quite often and works well with them.

Even with molded leather holsters it's going to be hit and miss. It will depend on how tightly molded the holster is. I offer holsters for both the Hi-Power and 1911s and they are not interchangeable.

I think many leather or fabric holsters will interchange

I have several 1911s and a Hungarian P-35 (BHP clone). I have a leather belt slide from Bob Mernickle that works fine for all. I also have several fabric holsters (from Uncle Mike's and from WRB) that work for all. But for my new Commander I had to open up (widen) and then re-stitch the muzzle end of the fabric holsters to keep the larger, sharper front sight from snagging on the draw. But as far as fit, the holsters don't know if they're holding a 1911 or a HP.
