Hey guys my 1911 still won't eject brass. I took it to a local smith who said it's not my extractor. I replaced my recoil spring with a new one,any ideas here?
Thanks,45automan

Can you be a little more specific? You didn't mention the ejector, that's a possible cause of this kind of problems. Is the brass being extracted and then jamming, or is it remaining in the chamber?

The brass is remaining in the chamber. The slide is coming back about a third of the way then stopping. If I drop the mag and close the slide, then rack it manually the brass comes out every time. This will happen every 2 or 3 rounds.

I just saw your previous post, with the new info, perhaps I can at least hazard a guess. Since I suspect the gunsmith looked at the chamber, at least I hope he did, he should have ruled out a rough chamber. It sounds like you have something that is interfearing with the action of the slide. Is the slide staying 1/3 our of battery? If so, can you determine what is holding it in that position? I'm going to assume that you've tried different magazines, right?

The slide is staying at about a third of the way back. I tried 3 diffrent mags, all factory Colt 7 rounders. The ammo is Winchester White Box 230 gr ball. I wasn't limpwristing, I thought of that also and made sure to hold onto the gun very firmly. Chamber is smooth,he checked. Hope this helps.

I think this is one I'd have to take to the range and see. :) I'm pretty sure that if I had it in my hands with the slide stuck at 1/3 open that I could figure out what was going on.

Are you using a heavy recoil spring? Are the rounds factory or handloads? Is the pistol nice and clean or fouled from shooting?

There's a lot of variables in your situation. Like other have said, it needs to be seen to figure it out.
