Yes, I do prefer a dovetail to staking. Sights are easier to change and there is an .0625 hole in the front of the sight to secure it with a roll pin.
When I did work for Nowaks in my shop I cut hundreds and I don't think any ever came loose.
Staking is kind of an old method I feel but if done correctly it's O.K.
If you have a slide that is thin (clone) in the front only cut that 65 degree dovetail .060 deep, if it's normal thickness is .075 in depth.
The sight you would order from Novak would match. I've cut them by hand but it's touchy.
Hope this helps - one other reason is with the slide is locked in a good Kurt vise the sight will always be square.
