I have a 1911 Springfield that I am going to install a McCormick trigger and a cylinder & siide hammer, sear and disconnector in. Being that the springfield has a tapered trigger cannel I will have a trigger shoe that has vertical movement after filing the trigger shoe to fit the gun. How should I go about getting a good trigger shoe fit to the gun ? Should I file the trigger cannel or only file the trigger shoe ? Thanks Norman

Dear shooter:
The new 1911 trigger that you get should be oversize! You fit it to the frame by coating top and bottom with black cato marker, trying to insert it, taking it out, gingerly filing top or bottom till there is virtually no play up or down and the trigger should move back and forth very freely. I have never heard of a "trigger shoe" on a 1911 - once you fit your trigger properly there ia absolutely no need for a "trigger shoe."
You never want any more weight than absolutely necessary in a 1911 trigger - this can cause hammer follow which in my opinion hardly ever happens due to sear/hammer fit but is the heavy trigger that hits the disconnector leg and hence the sear to let the hammer "follow."
Also, the grip safety must be fit while you fit your trigger/sear/hammer job.
