1911 Slide Lock problem

Hi everyone

I've got a troublesome new magazine - when the last round is fired, the slide doesn't lock back. All my other magazines lock back OK.

I believe that I can easily rectify the problem by tweaking the steel follower. Any advice on how?

Make sure the top loop of the spring is under the tab on the underside of the follower. If the spring is behind this tab the follower will nosedive causing the problem. Make sure that no burrs in the mag body are snagging follower.

Best remedial action for a balky mag. Lay it carefully on a hard surface. Hit mag body in the center as hard as you can with butt of unloaded gun or 3lb hammer. Repeat until de-stressed. Throw mag in trash and smile. Go to computer and order a Wilson mag.

And besides, you don't have a 1911 right? ;) Least that's what you're gonna need to say when the socio-facists you got down there come and want to "buy it back". As if they ever owned it in the first place.

Field strip the pistol and then replace the slide stop.

Insert the unloaded magazine.

Eyeball the slide stop and you can see where and how the magazine follower tab engages it. I suspect the tab may be bent inward or downward so the slide stop isn't engageing it. Once you see what it's doing (or not as the case may be) you can probably fix it.

1911 Slide Lock Problem

Thanks fellas

I'll give it a try tonight. Unfortunately, Navy Joe, all our guns are individually registered - long arms since 1997 and handguns since way before that. For many years, pistol clubs over here have had to provide written support to the police before we can get a permit to acquire a handgun - so, there's heaps of paperwork out there on each shooter and each gun!

Unless you're a criminal with a black market or stolen gun, it's impossible to avoid the situation you talk about.
