1911 series 80 safety

I know this is going to sound foolish, but, what will happen if the firing pin safety "post" is removed from a 80 series pistol? My 70 series doesn't have one, obviously, but it was designed without one, will removing it from an 80 series cause any problems, either safety wise or operationally?

Thanks

No, and you can get a spacer to fill the gap in the frame where the levers go if you want to remove those also.

The firing pin plunger is designed to keep the firing pin from creeping forward and firing a chambered round if the gun falls on its muzzle, so there is a reason for it, even though that kind of accident is extremely rare.

It is worth noting that if any safety feature is removed and an accident happens that results in a law suit, the plaintiff's attorney will probably claim that removal of a safety shows a reckless disregard for safety, even if the absence of the safety feature had no role in the accident.
