1911 questions.

Got a great deal on an entry level 1911 45 gi model. It's the regent R100. It's in very good shape with an upgraded Wilson combat trigger and Wilson combat beaver tail. I traded my taurus pt740 even up for it.

This is my first 1911 and I was wondering what the benefits were to the full length guide rod? Also are there any tips for lubing and maintaining this gun. thanks.

The benefit of a flgr is often debated but the intent is to keep the spring from kinking or binding during cycling. You should lube the slide rails, barrel lugs, bushing inside and outside diameter, link and slide stop pin.

The FLGR basically makes it harder to take your gun down. That is the only "advantage" they offer in my opinion.

They are easy and cheap to replace however. Under $30 and you can up grade to an Ed Brown GI rod and plug.
