Hello Gentleman:
I am new to this forum and I want to share my Daly experience. The following is a copy of a letter that i sent to the KBI repair center with my 1 DAY OLD CD 1911. They tell me it will be 2-6 weeks for a turnaround on the pistol. Is this good service?

October 18, 2000------Shot gun, 100 rounds Blazer 230 factory new ammo
October 19, 2000------Field strip to clean, Gun slide horribly mangled & unrepairable, spring guide bar broken, frame all scraped inside, barrell looks OK,magazines OK (nice choice in the shooting stars)
October 19, 2000-------Overnighted pistol to service center

Please replace this pistol, anything less is unacceptable. I currently own four Kimber 1911s with many thousands of rounds
and have yet to see anything like the damage on the enclosed pistol. Make a new customer a happy customer and replace the pistol. I plan on sharing my service experience with all of the friendly 1911 shooters at the many forums on the internet.Thank you in advance for replacing my pistol.

Sincerely,
Doug Elder

You do get what you pay for. I just say my first daly at the local store and was seriously less than impressed with the things. That has to be the ugliest 1911 ever built. Talk about clunky!!!

I thought the whole idea was to go UP, not down? From Kimbers, you're supposed to move on to Wilson or Baer, not the other way around.

I'll be interested in seeing what they do.

You are right about moving up. But, Iwanted a cheap reliable "truck gun" I got the all stainless fullsize Empire for $394.00+ Tax in college station. Good pricing, I figure cost plus 5%. I don't know how they make a living selling them that cheap. Ex. kimber CDP's for $904.00. I got Cheap not Reliable. Another one of lifes lessons...

A Charles Daly rep just called me. He was very nice and they will be standing behind their product. It really is a good looking 1911 and, for the price you can't beat them. I just hope that mine was an isolated fluke and the next one that they send me works right. I do appreciate their quick response and the professionalism in which they handled the sitiuation.

It's great that they got to you so quickly. I'm not familiar with the particular model, but after seeing this local one, I'd be hard pressed to buy any.

For a cheap truck gun, I'd go with a Mak. I love the 1911 features, but for a "throw-away" gun, the mak is really hard to beat.

I just spent a tidy sum on a Ruger MkII so my mak purchase is going to have to wait until after the holidays. Of course, that means I'll have to buy a Pelican case to hold three pistols and use that Bagmaster thing to carry the ammo and such. It's a hard life.

Good luck on your trade-in. I'd love to hear how a good Daly shoots longterm.
