1911 Parts Question

Simple question, I have a Springfield 1911 G.I. and want to order parts to customize it. It's a 5" Barrel meaning it's the full size government model right? That also means that any 1911 part that will fit a Government Model Colt will also work for mine?

Someone please let me know if I'm accurate in my assumptions so I can avoid buying the wrong parts.

P.S. Would mine be considered a series 70 or 80? How do I tell? Thanks.

Springfield

IIRC, the firing pin is smaller. The stock size for Springfield in all calibers is a 9mm or .38 super size. Also, if it has the lock in the mainspring housing, a couple parts will need to be changed when you remove the lock:rolleyes:

One of the major things about the SA 1911's is the radius of their beavertail safety. They use a .220" while a majority of manufacturers use a .250". This will make a difference if you're looking to replace the original, GI-style part. Just make sure to specify when you order the part.

Sights

If you are replacing the sights, SA likes to use a "med" sight tenon on their staked type sights. I do not know for sure about the GI model but the Mil-Spec uses a medium tenon.

Good luck
