1911 Magazines: How good are Metalform magazines?

Hello Everyone,

When it comes to 1911 magazines, how do Metalform's stack up against Chip McCormick's and Wilson's?

Although I do realize that nothing beats a Wilson Combat magazine, the Metalform are available at very attractive quantity discounts. This makes them very attractive for the "load it and leave it" mags just in case you need them. You know, for places like the glove box in my car, home office, etc.

Thanks for the help.

Anthony,

I just bought some in 10mm for my Delta Elite. Though I wouldn't compare them to Wilsons, they are certainly at least as good as my original Colts. I've had no failures with the 5 of 10 that I've already put into service.

I guess it depends a little on what caliber you are talking about. Their .45 have always worked OK for me, but I pretty much hate their 10mm stuff. Much prefer Chip McCormick's stuff over anything else.

I'm with WESHOOT2 on this. I just don't see spending big bucks on Wilson's if mags that cost half as much are 100% in your gun.

Bottom line, if it works, use it.

Metalforms are pretty good. I did get a bad one once that had a loose welded baseplate, but that's it.

They may have improved these days, but the metaforms I bought a few years ago for my Colt and other 1911 clones all had a problem of being to wide. They all rubbed against the stirrup of the trigger whenever it slid back and really messed up the trigger pull. Adjusting the stirrup width didn't help either. Wounded up just picking a ton of generic Colt mags from a bulk purchase.
