1911 magazine won't go in...

How firmly are you trying to insert it?

I don't mean to bang it off a table, but imagine you are doing a reload in a gunfight - you'll slam that mag home.

Mine meet resistance if I try to gently insert them - but a firm push starting when the top of the mag is just inserted into the bottom of the magwell usually does it.

If you know all of this already....then nevermind....

Alnamvet, why are you being so vague? How about providing some more useful information?

For example,
What type of gun are you using?
What model are you using?
Have you modified the mag release?
Have you modified your CMC mags?
What other types of mags have you found that work better?
Does this just happen with one CMC mag, or with several?
Do the CMC mags work in other 1911s?
Does it matter if the mags are loaded or not?
What sort of thoughts do you want from us on the issue? Do you want to fix the problem, make it so that no mags go in without the mag release being depressed, to tell you whether we think it is a good idea or not, is safe or not, or what???

As my mechanic notes, the road to repair starts with proper problem identiification and description.
Me: My car won't start.
Mechanic: What do you mean your car won't start? Do you mean you turn the key and nothing happens or do you mean that you turn the key, the starter works, but the engine never runs? Starter and engine are two separate issues.

Come to find out, my car starts fine. My engine was not well, but the starter ran like a top!

Thanks Kevin for your

intelligent response...no, combat slam didn't work; it's the mag...a bit wide at the top....catches the mag release...gave them back to my dealer who loaned them to me to try out...I'll stick with my WC's and stock everything else's that never gave me a problem with ANY of my 1911/A1/91, et al;)

P.S. Thanks to you too Jim...it's the mags

Obviously, the magazines may be the problem but some of the clones on the market are poorly fitted and the magazine release may need a touch from a rotary file or a small grinding drum in a Dremel tool. Use care and it should come out fine.

Jim

Alnamvet,

See? What'd I tell you? ;)

Stop using CMC Shooting Star mags?

If you've found ones that work in your gun (ie, the Wilsons and the factory ones), stick with 'em.
