Hey everyone!!

So I want to build a kit 1911, first place I looked at was Sarco Guns and they have the Rock Island Armory for under 250.00 which is a good deal!! But I want to get a perspective on this project from members that have built their own 1911s... Is it worth it? Like should I just buy a cheap 1911 and mod that.. Or are there any better (quality and price) places than Sarco for the kit? And any tips anybody cares to add would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank You!

How much experience do you have working on/building 1911's. If none I would pass for this could become a very expensive project even buying a short money starter gun. The replacement parts if screwed up will at some point become small/large paper weights due to improper fitting rendering them non-functional. They are as complicated as they are simple in design and a stroke of the file can turn a good part into, well junk or worse unsafe for use.
Do some research before embarking on this endeavor. Your pocket book will thank you

If you are going to supply each and every part individually, rather than modifying a existing gun, you should consider using a good quality forged frame and slide.
It would be kind of a shame to fill a cheapie frame and slide with all those expensive parts.
How about buying a middling good grade of gun and only replacing the objectionable parts?
You'll learn a lot about 1911s without getting into an endless project.
