1911 in TITANIUM !

HELL YES!
I also volunteer to give a non biased evaluation and write a detailed review of said piece...
SOMEBODY - PLEASE MAKE ONE!

Didn't HANDGUNS magazine do a review of an all-titanium 1911 created (prototype) by Strayer-Voight? This was a real Star-Trek type piece, with sights milled into the frame and everything.

Maybe this means they're on the way?

All I can say is "yikes." I shoot a Ti J-frame, and while we can discuss the various issues that may/may not make this a good comparison, I will say that the recoil impulse gets very unpleasant after more than a few rounds. I mostly train with a steel copy of the Ti revolver. (Maybe that would be the best approach for this one, too?)

BTW, did you notice -- no price? <g>

Erik, those sights are pretty funk-eee, yep.

JNewell, I've emailed SVI asking for their MSRP. As for recoil, I have a Taurus Ti .357, and while it's stout, it's not unpleasant. .357 has a much faster, sharper recoil pulse than .45ACP, so I think it wouldn't be an issue in the TIKI.

Drat, Just when I figured I had everything I wanted in guns. There must be things wrong with this SVI to change my mind, right?

This was the first thing that lept to mind after I found out the price of the Infinity Tiki-T: $6,000.00

Richard, get out of my head. :)

 Never mind.

titanium might be cool but that slide is butt-ugly

and what gives with those sights?? you can't use front site focus without a front sight??

$6k huh, neat SV- but no thanks, thats several hundred short of a Barrett 82A1- that I want "very" badly (well, along with many other gun enthusiasts).

There is something for everyone.

I was thinking of something like a standard-frame and -slide 1911, with maybe some nice Novak or Bo-Mar sights. And certainly not for 6K. Hell, if Taurus can make revolvers out of 90% Ti for $475, there's no reason why Springfield can't make a real Ti 1911 for $650.

Rob, the front sights (yes, plural) are in the outside corners, like the turn indicators on Cadillacs. I have NO idea how that would work.

BTW, does anyone else think this thing looks like Duke Nukem's pistol in DN3D? :)

Thats an impressive amount of money. If you think about it thats a nifty turn around from what we are used to here, i.e. a standard comment: "Don't get that Wilson, you could get 4 glocks for that much money."

With this thing you can get 4 Wilsons. Wow.

6 Grand? Holy frog farts, the only way that I would pay that kinda money for a hand gun would be if it came with a sea container of .45 ball ammo. TAOTFM

$ 6K. With that amount of money just imagine how many antis you could take to the range. I'd still prefer the traditional model.

Titanium, actually titanium/aluminum/vanadium alloy, is a teriffic alloy. It corrodes at a rate of 1/1000th inch per 1000 years in seawater. It's tensile is about 125,000, which is about 30,000 better than 204 stainless. However, it's hell to smelter and machine. For that reason Titanium alloy guns will be expensive.

$6,000?

Perfect for my $88-per-round 45ACP ammo!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

(maybe when I can buy one for $1800...)
