Just picked up a used 1911 (Ithica top, Essex bottom) and tested it out last night. Shooting five shot groups, it shot a ragged hole at 25' offhand, and 3" groups at 50' bullseye style one hand. Here's the problem. On two occasions out of ten, while ejecting the fourth empty case, it also ejected the live fifth round. It looked like the recoil spring had been cut, possibly for light loads, and I was shooting full 230gr loads. Could this be the problem?
