1911 denting brass on ejection

Ok, I have a factory stock GI spec 1911A1 springfield and it is ejecting the spent brass all over the place (sometimes even straight back into my forehead) and is seriously denting the mouth of the brass (sometimes it looks like a slight dent and other times it resembles a deep cresent moon). I have examined the extractor and ejector and both are fine compared to my Kimber and Colt. And the colt and kimber don't and have never dented the cases. I was thinking of having the front of the opening opened up a bit, but I checked the inside of the slide and didn't notice any scuff or scrape marks from brass hitting it, so I am a little reluctant to mill the slide right now, just to prove a theory wrong).

If Harry Bonar is still on the forum your help would be appreciated, since you are the unofficial 1911 guru on the forum.

Dented brass is pretty common with a GI size ejection port.

If you lower and flare it, your brass will eject more consistently and the denting will be minimal.

Springfield already does this (along with colt) from the factory (the only two "mass produced" 1911 comapnies that do this). My GI spec already had this done and is identical to the COLT and KIMBER port dimensions. So, this is not the problem.
 
Then have an extended ejector installed.

My 1911 did this so I had it lowered & flared, as well as an extended ejector and now it hasn't dent the brass in years.
 
Most likley an over tenshioned extracter.

Easiest way to find out is buy a replacement, set it up and see if that fixes it, then you can fiddle with the old one to get it right as well, it's a spare part one should keep around anyway.
 
Check for extractor clocking also.
If the firing pin stop is not a tight fit in the extractor the extractor can rotate and throw empties all over the place.
