My Citadel 1911 saga continues; bought this pistol second hand from a coworker. It was NIB when he bought it back in February, and now I'm thinking I know why he really sold it. I don't have any experience with 1911s at all, so I'm a little sheepish about this one at the moment.
I had posted earlier this month about this pistol having extraction issues in the smithy forum. I tweaked on the extractor until I felt that feeding and extraction had made a marked improvement. Today I bought a new Kimber mag at the local store to see if that would make any additional improvement. I haven't shot it yet... but... after hand cycling the same 8 rounds through the pistol at a fairly fast pace (pull back and let go, cycles forward on spring pressure only).. I'm getting some pretty aggressive bullet setback.
At the moment, it's with some WWB 185gr semi-wadcutters. These are now setback an average of .04, with the worst being a full 1/10". These are garbage now.
Google has led me to threads that say it's a pistol problem, or a mag problem.. or just plain ol' crappy ammo (crappy crimp). I've seen this now on three brands of ammo though. Aguila 230gr SWC, CCI Blazer FMJ 230gr, and now the WWB.
For the sake of my wallet and sanity, should I just part ways with this pistol? Or should I pursue some handloads with better crimp? I've got a set of dies on my B-day wishlist, and about 300 rounds of once-fired brass. The rest of this WWB is going to the S&W 625. Just starting to lose faith that this pistol can shoot a mag full of anything without problems.
Found this thread which makes me feel a little less crazy: http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=426126&highlight=1911+bullet+setback
I still want to do diligence though, see if the general consensus today is that this is purely an ammo problem.
Thanks guys,
