im fairly new to 1911 style guns but im going to start a project soon,i just enjoy assembling my own guns.which frame and slide combos would youall start with(fullsize).im currently considering either the wilson combat or the les baer monolith?the gun will be strictly a target gun and possibly some matches as i progress.also are their any good books on building 1911 style pistols out there?all info and tips on this project will be greatly appreciated. thanks a million, kentucky joe

If you want to do your own slide to frame fitting I like Caspian. They are quite reasonably priced for what you get - especially their frame checkering - it looks great and for only $75 extra it's a BARGAIN!

The only reason to go with the others is for pre fitted sets IMHO. They are cost prohibitive for me. I'd rather sink the extra bucks in other features.

If you build from scratch on the Caspian F/S you can get the Pre-fit or "drop-in" barrels (I use Nowlin and Ed Brown). They won't actually drop in and you will still have plenty of fitting to make it tight and right.

Baer is the best, but my 1911 is Caspian gunsmith frame and slide..........best value by far is Caspian..........many champion guns are made on Caspian parts...........when you call Caspian ask for Josh.
