1911 Beavertail

Hey Y'all
Installed a new Beavertail on my 1911, with the hammer in the full cock
position and no pressure on the tail the gun will fire when the trigger is pulled.
I have been told I need to remove some material from the finger of the tail !
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I cannot tell you for sure what you did wrong, . . . but something ain't right. That beavertail is also the grip safety. If it is not keeping the weapon from firing, . . . it needs to be fixed.

Soon.

Were there no "instructions" with it???

May God bless,
Dwight

Hey Dwight
Thanks for the reply, the only thing that came with it was a note that said
may require some minor fitting. It appears the finger that contacts the sear
spring is too long, but Im not sure.

1911 Grip Safety

Usually, the tang on the grip safety will have to be filed down a bit. Brownell's Bench Talk section of their web page has an article "Building a 1911 Part VI" that explains it.

Fitting the grip safety is a relatively easy job, but it should be done by someone who knows what they are doing. Take it to a gunsmith. It will set you back very little $$.
