This is something I actually haven't tried - yet. Is there any trick to getting the barrel link aligned just right for the slide stop to go in without cheating and looking?
How about aligning the slide stop notch on the slide?

Use a toothpick and wiggle it around in there and do it by the feel of it. (easier said than done)

The slide stop can be done by the feel of it as well.

Try doing it when it's been completely torn down to the frame. Getting the sear and disconector in and pinned should be a real challenge. And after seeing Gabrielle Anwar in Burn Notice I can't hardly believe that's the same woman that was in Scent of a Woman. She's so......short. If we have to do it one handed can we use a vice?

Point the gun slightly upward and tap the barrel to the rear a couple of times.

I'd think getting the notch lined up with the slide stop would be harder.

Once you get that down, try stripping it all the way. Getting the mainspring in might present a challenge. Wear safety glasses.

Keep a magnet handy. If you lose a spring or two, you'll wish you were working in a phone booth!!

I watched a guy re-assemble a detail-stripped series-70 with the gun and his hands inside a canvas bag. I was IMPRESSED and he did it at least as fast as I normally re-assemble (yes, I'm kinda slow that way).

Thick grease will help to prevent the parts from moving as you manipulate them. You don't need to go crazy w/ it, just enough to keep things in place.
