1911 9-round mags....where are they?

Hello,

I have a number of 8-round 1911 mags, and they fit flush in the handle as we all know.

But, like many people, most all of my 8-round mags have a butt pad on them. I like that plastic butt pad on the end of my mags. It makes it more comfortable to change mags, and I have yet to find the butt pad sticking out of the handle a half inch to be intrusive when I am carrying the gun.

If I look at the butt pad....hmmmm...it is about one half inch or so in length. This adds about one half inch to the length of the mag and makes it stick out of the handle. Hmmmm....one half an inch....*brainstorm*...that is about enough to fit a .45 caliber bullet!!!

So, how come no genius has come out with a 9-round 1911 mag that sticks out a half inch from the handle and has a nice plastic cover on it so it would look and perform and feel just like an 8-round mag with a butt pad on it, but it would have 9 rounds!

I am frustrated that there are 8 round mags with butt pads, or there are 10 round mags with huge butt pads that stick out an inch from the handle, but no one has been smart enough to just make a 9-rounder with a built in butt pad. The magazines are already that long with the butt pad on them...why not make use of the space and put another round in there?

So, where are they? How come they don't exist? Seems like a logical step to me. Am I the first to think of this?

Thanks

Eight round mags are the pits for reliability... stick to G.I. or good quality 7 rounders. Better a sure 7 than a rocky 9!

Besides you should always carry at least one extra mag....

Forget bout' it work till your pension and retire! ;)

I have four of the Chip McCormick Shooting Star 8 round mags and four of the older Devel 8 round mags. I've never had a bit of problem with them, and I shoot them in competition, plus have one in the grip of my Colt L.W. Commander, for carry. Also always carry at least one spare (or sometimes more, depending...) FWIW.

Jay Buddy!

I have had problems with Chip Mcormick Shooting star 8 rounders'. failures to feed in a nicely worked over loose as a goose Colt pistola...

I did not have any problems with the standards...even "tripple K"... Heard Chip made a hole bunch of defective mags.

Now I know defects, if you work hard enough, can be found eventually in any production run of any mag period. BUT the more you try and squeeze into a mag the better you need to Engiener and Produce it...that leaves less room for very small errors ...and thus Amigo makes the mag Less Reliable.

I am glad you carry an extra mag anyway...never can tell what demons lie in wait...

Peace

I want 5.

Several years ago, Eagle made a 9rd .45 mag for the 1911. However, it had a really bulky basepad, and used a wierd rolling magazine spring.

What I really want is a 10rd 10mm/.40 S&W magazine for the 1911.

I have a number of Wilson 8-round mags and have never had a problem with jamming once I got my guns working (up until that point, no mag would feed)

I also have been searching earnestly for a 9 or 10 round .40 caliber Lightweight Commander style 1911. I would love to see that.

Thanks for the encouragment on teh idea. I wish I could run with it and make $$$. Maybe at least someone will see this and see the $$$ to be had. Hey Wilson or others....are you listening?
