1911 .45 day at the range

Took two of my beauties to the range today -- Kimber Eclipse Target II and Colt Gold Cup National Match Series 80 ... both guns functioned perfectly shooting cheap range ammo, and both were a hoot to shoot.

The Crimson Trace laser on the Gold Cup adds a little zip to shooting that gun, although I usually just use the good old iron sights.

Good ...and congratulations on some nice guns / 1911's have long been my go to range guns and my carry guns !

Both great looking guns!! Esp the Kimber - made me look it up to see how much they cost :)

Question for you - I'm a relatively new pistol shooter and have been practing with a Kahr I'm planning to use for concealed carry, and a Ruger I'm shooting for fun and home defense. Both of these are striker-fired, not hammer-fired like the 1911's. Is there a noticeable difference on the trigger pull when shooting the hammer-fired 1911?

Eventually I'm going to have to get one just because they look so cool

I'm not sure about with the Kimber and Colt, but with my Dan Wesson and customized SA's, yes there is a huge difference between those and my Kahr's, Glocks, etc.

That is a beautiful finish on the Kimber, what kind of finish/coating is that? I'm planning to get an Ed Brown soon and I want that same finish

1911's tuned up or match grade 1911's have a reputation for crisp, light trigger pulls that are the envy of the semi-auto world.

P.S. Nathan and Rogerzvz-I'm poaching your thread here. Feel free to answer too.

IIRC they are polish stainless flats with a blued/black accents.

That is the Kimber "Eclipse" finish and as far as I know only Kimber does it. I may be wrong and others here may know more.

Ed Browns are great 1911s so whatever finish you get with it, it will be a fine firearm.

My Kimber is a very nice pistola. Very tight, very accurate, and now that I've put some rounds through it, very reliable. It was very tight at first and when it got dirty, i.e. after firing maybe 150 rounds, it would sometimes not go back into full battery. As soon as I cleaned it, fine. Now that the gun is broken in it is reliable 100% of the time. You get a lot of gun for the money with this gun. Great finish, match barrel, adjustable sight with Tritium front and rear sights, checkered front and rear on the grip. Lotta gun.

Beautiful blasters.

Day here in the Midwest finally got on the warm side of freezin'.

So I took my "New School" & "Old School" 1911s to the local range for a workout. Put about 150rds thru each.

1932 Colt Commercial.

Colt M45A1 Marine rail gun.

I've always liked that look.

That picture is sharp.
