I have an extra Springfield frame that I was thinking about changing to .22 for target practice. I have been told that Marvel Products out of Nebraska makes a very accurate conversion, almost to target gun standards? Anyone have any success with this conversion and can attest to their quality/accuracy? Any other favorits?

.22 Conversion

I have the Marvel conversion unit, which I got to try out for the first time yesterday. I bought it on the advice of a member of the 1911 forum who said he tried every conversion unit out there and found the Marvel to be far superior to everything else. I then reviewed the test of the conversion unit that you can get from Marvel's website. What I wanted was high accuracy and high reliability. What good is a conversion unit that is inaccurate, or fails a lot, or one that requires you to use high velocity ammo to function properly? So I gave it the torture test and fed it old crappy ammo that my friend had lying around in his basement. The ammo is so crappy that it feels old to the touch. Well, after 200 rounds, I am a believer in the Marvel conversion unit. Extremely accurate, and I had one FTF in 200 rounds. I attribute this to the ammo, and not the conversion unit. The way they designed it makes sense. The whole slide does not blow back w/the recoil, only the lower half of it. This allows Marvel to use a lighter spring and get better ejection of the spent casing. The Marvel is more expensive than other conversion units, but if you want competition grade accuracy (my test target came w/a 1/2" grouping at 50 yards) and hate jams as much as I do, it might be worth it to you.

I've got a Ciener kit with fixed sights that I can in no way come close to exploiting the accuracy thereof. I think it would do one hole from a machine rest. You pay your money, you take your choice.

How about a Great 22 conversion!!!!

Everything that Delta447 said is true. Bob Marvel builds a great unit. I have shoot several different versions and they were all top quality.

If you are still looking around I would ask you to go to www.jarvis-custom.com . I have had a couple of these units and they are the best dollar value out there,IMO. They are totally reliable-They both shot better than I could ever manage and They have some great design features.

For my money it would be a "Jarvis" or a "Marvel" conversion unit!!

P.S. Delta447,thank you for a very nice range report-good luck-good shooting

I have tried 2 -
a Ceiner kit, which worked well & a EAA kit...which needed some TLC from my smith to get to work w/ my series 80 Colt.
Fun guns & those 22lr rounds are CHEAP!
