1903a3 low light front site?

Is there a replacement front site, or nail polish or?

I was using my 03a3 for moose hunting this season and couldn't see the front site at "moose oclock".

My No5 jungle carbine has some red nail polish a previous owner painted on the rear face and does work better than an all black site.

I'm not sure what you are asking,

Is the front sight too low to allow you to get a zero or is it too hard to see?

If it's too low and you need an orginal front sight, then get with the guys on the CMP forum to find an orginal front sight for the '03.

If it's just hard to see, then yes bright nail polish will help. (I put floresent orange on my Model 64 for ICORE shooting in the bright sun and it makes the front sight jump right our there allowing to focus on it a lot better).

I just hope you arn't thinking of ruining the gun by putting some non-standard sight on it. As Issued orginal 1903-A3s are getting hard to come by.

I do like to see people putting these old work horses to work, as in your planned moose hunt.
 
It is an almost pristine SC, the one round cut-off has an R, a really nice gun.

I was thinking they have been around for so long that some one may have tried somthing that helped aiming in low light conditions. If there is an alternate front sight blade that can be easily exchanged or a "paint" that can be removed, keeping it in an original condition.

Ol' timers would tie a length of white cotton string between the front and rear sight. It was great for getting windage to the target in low light, but you had to use muscle memory for elevation.
